The 'gunpods' are kept for two reasons; firstly they act as Lift Improvement Devices in the hover, helping to trap a 'cushion' under the aircraft and more importantly stopping hot gas from the nozzles getting to the intakes.
Secondly, though the 25mm Aden was indeed a lemon, and cancelled, the pods are still handy to carry all sorts of other stuff, of the type one is not able to mention.
There is another, more important role - a little known store, available on most RAF jets, is the 'gin-bin' for overnight baggage !
