The Zoo

Several enclosures are scattered over the zoo lands, patches of greenery behind bars and concrete moats. A creature brought to the zoo will have a very difficult time escaping, though it may be possible if the animal has friends to aid it. Even friends, however, cannot help a creature escape during the first week of confinement, for it is during this time that the animal is held in quarantine. This is a lonely and uncomfortable time, with only the cold steel bars and cool stone floor of the cage for company, in a drafty and poorly lit building, the monotony broken only briefly for feedings by the zoo keepers. If a creature is given a clean bill of health, it is released into an outdoor spacious naturalistic enclosure, possibly with others of its kind. There are those who find this new life relaxing.... food and shelter is provided, no longer does one need to engage in the rigors of the hunt. For many, however, life at the zoo is nearly unbearable given the absence of one important thing...freedom.

(This means that if you are captured and brought to the zoo, you must remain here for at least 3 real time days once you have been put in quarantine before attempting escape. Any attempting to rescue you from quarantine before the three days have passed will in turn be captured themselves. Note that you can attempt an escape or be aided in an escape prior to actually being admitted into quarantine, or after you are admitted into the main enclosures. Also note, that while it is preferred you wait out the quarantine period even if it takes longer than three days, you may escape quarantine after 3 real time days have passed (so that nobody gets trapped there permanently if their character is forgotten about while in quarantine). However, you are greatly encouraged to wait out the quarantine period if someone is actively tending to your captured character)

Nick watched the young fox as she explored her surroundings.

He was pleased to see that, while energetic, she did not seem to be on the verge of panic...perhaps she was young enough that a transition to zoo life would be less difficult for her than for an adult animal.

The keeper's gaze shifted away from the fox, to the occupant of one of the other cages...

Nick's emergence from the quarantine building had not gone unnoticed. Timber had spotted the man's approach, and had risen to his feet, watching the man and his cargo with a mixture of hope and curiosity.

Timber was a grey wolf, and he looked as much a typical wolf as one would expect. His fur was a mix of tans, greys and black, and his green eyes seemed to hold the wild in their depths, though Timber himself had not been beyond the confines of his cage in a long time.

The wolf had once been the picture of health, but his ribs could just barely be seen beneath a slightly scraggly winter pelt...a sign that he had not been feeding well. This was obviously through no fault of the keepers, for several pieces of meat lay strewn about his cage. No, Timber's lack of appetite had a far different cause...

The wolf watched as Nick came closer, moving to a nearby empty enclosure, and the faint hope died from his eyes. The cage the man carried was too small. As the fox was released into her cage, Timber sighed softly. It had been his imagination....only his imagination...Sinking slowly to lay upon the exposed ground, the wolf watched the fox in her activity silently, simply because he had little else to do at the moment...

***

Nick sighed softly to himself as Timber sank down once more. One of the zoo's oldest animals (though by no means old himself), Nick hated to see the condition Timber had deteriorated to. He knew of only one thing that could possibly help, and for that reason turned away from the fox, picking up the now empty crate and heading back towards the quarantine building.

Will clear animals from quarantine to join the general zoo population (note that animals not cleared from quarantine by a vet can be moved to zoo general population after the three day quarantine period, but must be confined to an enclosure by itself. Only vet-checked animals can be placed in enclosures together.) Will work closely with keepers.

Acquisititors - These people are responsible for obtaining zoo animals from the wild. Hired by the zoo for acquisition, any animal brought in my these employees will be admitted to quarantine.
