During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

It was a warm night in Munashii Gekko, the rays of the moon barely able to penetrate the thick foliage. It was a clear night, one of the many that the pack had seen in the entire summer. Yet one felt in the air a slow waning to the hot months. Autumn would be upon them soon, and the nights would bring a morning fog. Through the shadows of the trees a light breeze rustled the leaves, adding a natural noise above the sound of water gently making its way down stream. All in all, it was a calm night.

The pack stirred occasionally, getting the excitement of a new member. However it was mostly calm, a natural pack amongst some of the heavier traffic areas. It was well enough for the pack, for it lay on the north east corner, beside the Misty Mountain. While it may seem to be a large area for such a small pack, it suited the wolves that lived there well. At least two of them anyway. As if it were a place for them to hide away until they were needed again. Let the other packs go through drama, Munashii Gekko was for more quieted minded wolves. Besides, they had their own problems to worry about. Problems that had not been seen among Blossom Forest for the long summer. Perhaps they would be forgotten and told as legend.

It did not mean that the pack was to be forgotten. Nor were the members of it all gone, for a figure moved among the trees, a light step indicating years of living there. Silence was the oldest member of the Munashii Gekko pack, and he was not going to soon forget spending life here. As the oldest, it did not mean he was old and senile, he was in fact still in his prime. Muscles rippled beneath his white coat, carrying him beneath the well known foliage. Being the oldest merely meant he had been at the pack the longest. He had watched Alphas come and go, as if a stone in the middle of a fast running creek. They were there, and they brought new members, new excitement, and then it was gone again. Oddly enough, this did not bother the wolf. He enjoyed the silence, making his name a well earned one.

Silence was well preferred over the horrific noises of a past that was slowly being forgotten. Still, times when he slept, Silence was bothered by dreams of distant territories. Territories that new wolves were taking over, wolves that did not know of their past. It was a heartache to hear news of the friends and leaders that were now gone, lost in a time trap of their own. Never really aging, never dieing, but always waiting. Waiting for a call that Silence both wanted and dreaded.

The white wolf stepped up to the river that ran through the pack, his white legs ending in black paws that seemed so out of place. An oddity that he could not explain except as his father's mark on him. It was a shame that he had any signs of relation to a wolf that disowned him. Ah, but that was long ago. Long before Lamonderay, long before even Rae. The names of his former Alphas were nearly foreign in his mind. For even they were considered long ago. Lowering his head, Silence disturbed the reflection of his cold blue eyes as his image rippled in the faint moonlight that reached the ground. His tongue flicked out, lapping up the water to ease his thirst. He had toured the pack's nearby border, looking for signs of new wolves. But once again he did not see them, nor did he care to wander out. Perhaps in the morning he would take Hope on a hunt, to feel the wind rush past him and the burning excitement of a challenge. If he could find Takara or any others, he would take them as well.

Finished his drink, Silence turned away from the water with a sour thought of his sister. He had seen her more often than not staring out in the direction where her pack had once lived. Bright Moon was little more than a lifeless place now. The echoes of exploding trees still rang through their minds, the terror that had accompanied them through an odd battle was still clinging in the back corner. It was a horror that Silence wished to end. A horror that needed to end. But there was little they could do until Kaive or Jenygre came for them. Little they could do until the beasts struck again. If they struck again. Perhaps they merely waited for all those that remembered to die, and take the unexpected by surprise force. There was nothing that could be done since the amulets were stolen.

On days when he was feeling social, he challenged his sister to mock fights. He refused to let them grow weak, and trained as he would at any time to grow stronger in his uses. He felt it as his duty as Beta to make sure the pack was not left to wither, was not left to grow weak. The times he did not see Takara, he asserted his own dominance, making sure they knew he was fully behind his Alpha. He never questioned Takara's absences, nor did he ever hope to take the lead from her. He was quite content at being second in command and refused to let any mere wolf come by and claim the pack.

For a while he lingered by the water, his gaze lifted to the cloudless sky. The beauty of the stars still caught his attention, and for a moment he let a satisfied smile cross his features. Then he slipped away into the trees again, back to patrolling the area, and perhaps to see if he would stumble across a pack member.
