Counted 35 species on Carden Alvar today. Common Merganser, Hoooded Merganser, Common Goldeneyes, Buffleheads and the first Cananda Geese to return at the Lake Dalrymple Narrows. American Kestrel and Red-tailed Hawk on the alvar. The first Mallards and American Black Ducks on the meltwater pools. Large flocks of American Robins, Eastern Bluebirds, Red-winged Blackbirds, Common Grackles, and Dark-eyed Juncos on Windmill Ranch. Also Wilson's Snipe, American Woodcocks, Song Sparrows, Eastern Meadowlarks, Turkey Vultures,Ruffed Grouse, and Northern Ravens. Over 24 White-tailed Deer seen but probably many more not seen all in very good condition. A very early Eastern Garter Snake active on the Windmill Ranch. Replies: There have been no replies.
