I need a little feedback on this, to see if others think I'm barking up the right tree.
Anders Hansen was born on November 21, 1868 and baptized on December 20 of the same year. His mother was Birte (or Brita) Maria Samuelsdtr, who was from Stavnes, Sweden and at the time of his birth lived at Askimeiet. His father is listed as Hans Torgersen, also living at Askimeiet. They were unmarried. It appears that a majority of the baptism sponsors were hired laborers (which is what Marie Samuelsdtr was).
Maria got married in 1876 to Ole Lynne (American name), and eventually emigrated to the USA. Her and Anders' lives are pretty well documented after that point.
I have no idea what happened to Hans Torgersen. I haven't found any record of any marriage between him and Maria. I haven't been able to find any record of him as tied to that farm. The rumor from his grandchildren is that he was killed in a hunting accident, but they don't know any more than that. I haven't been able to find him in any death lists, either.
I started looking for Hans Torgersens in the Tingelstad region. The closest match to the guy I'm looking for is a Hans Torgersen who was born in 1851--and is on the farm Taaje in the 1865 census. This appears to be the same Hans Torgersen who appears in the Oslo Harbor records as an emigrant in 1871 (same age, from Gran)-- but I haven't found any corresponding documentation in the church records on digitalarkivet.
It's stuff like this that makes me wish Norway would have taken a census every year... :)
