Carden Alvar Nature Board by Bob BowlesBaillie Birdathon

A goup of us birded the Carden IBA for the Baillie Birdathon and were not disappointed. We taillied most of the usual suspects but overall the number of birds did not seem to be there and it took some time to get species that are usually easy to pickup. Highlights were good looks at the Loggerhead Shrikes on Wylie Road and we did see two Sandhill Cranes in the area, one flying south between Roads 33 and 47 and the other at south end Cranberry Lake. The habitat at Cranberry Lake is ideal for cranes so others may want to keep an eye out to see if there may be a nesting pair in the area.
