Hi Neil - I remember as a small child going back to the 1930's we would attend a fair every year at Tutbury where my Mother was born. It was always located in High Street and had the usual games .(i.e. knocking down the coconuts) I guess this fair must have gone way back as I own a Staffordshire dog that my Grandfather won when he was courting my Grandmother. This would be around 1880's. It was one of a pair that used to sit on the hearth of their little cottage at 36 Burton Street. The cottages were torn down several years ago. I can still recall a band playing - stalls selling meats and cheeses - and people trying their luck on the games of chance. Later a larger fair was held close to the Railway Station close to Hatton. This one with rides for the chldren etc. Hope this little memory from my past may help. Jean Mozley. Replies:
