I am looking to be your Pension Board Trustee for another term.
My name is Mark Bogush. I am a Captain on Engine 14 on the C platoon with 22 years of service. My service as your trustee for the last 3 years have been very educational to say the least. The teachings of the Florida Public Pension Trustee’s Association have allowed me to gain my certification as a Certified Public Pension Trustee. As you well know, it takes a just about 1 full term as a trustee to get a good grip on the workings of the pension and the needs of its membership.
Unfortunately, retirees are not permitted to participate as a trustee on the board and this leaves many of you feeling as though you have no representation. The past 3 years have taught me that you, as retirees, have not faded off into the sunset as many may have thought. In fact, the total opposite has occurred. The many pension board meetings have taught me that you have as much interest in the well being of this pension today as you did when you were actives building this pension to what it has become today. It is safe to say that there are some who have forgotten how they got to where they are today.
It is my hope that the decisions made by this trustee have been good educated decisions. There have been many issues over the last 3 years and the learning curve was very steep. With the help of many of you, I was able to get a grip on things quickly and this played a big part in many of those decisions. Fiduciary is a word that is thrown around quite a bit. Many speak of the responsibility he or she may have to the pension. A trustee also has a responsibility to the members as well and at times I believe that this is forgotten. This trustee has not forgotten where he came from and whom is responsible for where I am today. This trustee has not forgotten you.
Larry Vincent has contacted me to invite me as well as the other candidates to the luncheon Monday the 29th. I will be unable to attend as I will be out of town. I have always maintained an open door policy and freely give my contact numbers out for anyone with a question or suggestion to contact me.
I have the education. I have the experience. I have your best interest in mind at all times. I have no problem making that tough decision when the time comes. If you feel I am worthy than please get out and vote for me. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
