Hello Shipmate Sutherland Grandson:
My Father was aboard the USS Mulliphen from 23 Oct.1944 to 14 Jan. 1946. His rank was RM1 to CRM (AA). Yesterday (4Oct08) I posted his picture, as he died in 1972. I recently obtained his military records from the Government and am very proud of his accomplishments in his career, as I am sure you are with your Grandfather's. The ship's log on this website lists all the places my Father went. Was my Father a shipmate of your Grandfather aboard the Mulliphen? I am curious. My Father never talked about the war and now that I know what Iwo Jima was like, and that he was probably on the radio listening to the battle the whole time, it is no wonder. His short life of only 66 years produced 4 children, 3 grandchildren, and 7 GREAT grandchildren. I am very pleased that people like yourself are posting stories of their fathers online. It is comforting. I have plans to buy all his military medals and ribbons again, as they were lost somewhere along the way by family members that didn't hold them to any value. I am pleased at his awards. Now when I watch the History Channel I can relate to all the military scenes at sea. It has so much more personal meaning. Best to you! Regards: Margaret (an Arizona resident after 60 years in San Diego, a result of my Father's military assignments.) Replies: There have been no replies.
