Call for submission: 31st Big Muddy Film Festival
Dedicated to encouraging and supporting grass-roots filmmaking and film viewing in local communities and beyond, the Big Muddy Film Festival has become a well known film event both nationally and internationally.
In 1979, three students and one faculty member of Southern Illinois University launched the event, which takes its name from a local tributary of the Mississippi River. Barbara Laing, Jeanne Kracher, and Linda Balek directed, curated, and wrote grants for the first festival with Mike Covell in 1979.
In its 30 years of history, The Big Muddy Film Festival has showcased thousands of independent works, big and small, from around the world. The 31st festival will be held from February 19th to March 1st, 2009.
Each work submitted must be accompanied by an entry form and fee. The entry fee is waived for past jurors.
To download entry form, please visit the festival website
If you wish to submit two or more films, please use separate entry forms and DVDs or tapes.
Entries must be in English or with English subtitles. All works must be completed after January 2007. Films that had been previously submitted to the Big Muddy Film Festival are not eligible.
