Roxie Ann Smith Johnson IP: 68.110.208.145 Posted on November 14, 2008 at 08:26:55 PM by DebbieJP
My name is Deborah Jean Parker and I am doing genealogical research into my family and hope that you can point me in the right direction. I'm am trying to find information on my Great Grandmother Roxie Anne Smith Johnson. I think that she was born and lived her entire life in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
The facts that I have:
From Social Security Death Records I have her date of birth as March 2, 1885 and her death as September 16, 1941.
I have her parents as Harmon Smith and Mary Morrow Smith, I got this information from the 1910 Census which has them living with Roxie and her husband.
Her husband I have as William "Willie" Thomas Johnson. This information I have also picked up from the 1910 Census. On the 1910 and 1920 Census Willie is shown working at Arcadia Cotton Mill as a weaver. From my research I've got to assume this is the 1st Arcadia mill as the 2nd one didn't open until 1922.
Roxie had 6 children: William Harley Johnson 1902, Nellie Mae Johnson 1903, Charley Horase Johnson 1904, Earl Edward Johnson 1906, Annie Bell Johnson 1908, and Lillian Patricia Johnson 1914. In later years the Census records might include Nellie and Annie's children as they abandoned them to be brought up by their grandparents.
I would like to find a record of Roxie and William's marriage. Their census records for 1930 and 1940. I would also like to find out what cemetery she is buried in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
