Hundreds of trees, of all shapes and sizes, make up Novalee Forest. The bulk of the territory lies in the tree-strewn hills, nestled between the cliffs of Paduan and the Rushing Rivers. Water and food are both ample in these parts, and in the daytime, the lands remain fairly safe. The shelter of trees will provide a good place for raising young ones, and will comfortably hold a small herd.
Warnings: Wolves and bears roam the forest, particularly at night, so take caution.
Novalee Forest is aligned with: No One.

G.UERILLA b.ring them down
the pale beast listened closely to the small sound of his son's voice as he whickered in response to his father's words. though clearly not yet practiced in the art of verbal speaking, m.aelstrom seemed to have a great deal of understanding and thought behind his eyes. the curious, examining eyes - which still had that hint of unidentifiable familiarity - paired with the deeply-thinking expression were, of course, very intriguing to g.uerilla. a profound potential for intelligence was clear behind his son, for he had only just been born three days ago and already he holds the facial appearance of an experienced stag.
a small smile is permitted to grace the lips of the new sire, and it rested there long enough for both m.aelstrom to see before he lifted his head from his direct field of vision and for kitalya to notice as he turned back to look at her.
"no need to apologize, kitalya. these things often take some time."
no doubt she had done just as he had thought necessary: stayed with her newborn for a few days, bonding with him and protecting him from the elements, giving him the physical and psychological strength to emerge into the new, harsh world of reality.
her next question almost made him laugh. he had noticed her tense position while she observed him meeting their son, and had understood. it seemed however, as though she expected some sort of negativity from her lead.
no need to worry.
"he looks quite good, kitalya. you have very well with him, even in this short three days' time. i see a great deal of potential in him, of all sorts and scopes."
with that, g.uerilla gave the mare a nod of assurance, and turned to observe the young colt yet again.

M.AELSTROM before the s.torm
the young colt looked toward his sire as he reacted with what appeared to be satisfaction to his whicker, and m.aelstrom was satisfied with their first greetings as well.
he turned to hear his parents speaking, noting the muffled happiness in his sire's demeanor and tone, and seeing the smile as he turned to face kitalya. it seemed like a somewhat uncharacteristic expression; to the sharp eyes of the youth, his face seemed a bit strained to have it there; the lines of a smile did not match the age-etched lines he'd already held in his pale skin. nevertheless, the small grin suited him, his son thought, and so he accepted the expression as honest even if it did appear to be a little strained.
the small, dark tail of the boy flicked at his rear, scattering the insects who had found him so quickly after their emergence from the dark, dry, cool cave. already he found them to be quite annoying, and so his small whip struck at them almost consantly. perhaps it was the smell of damp, new flesh that attracted them so passionately. the tiny organisms didn't seem to be bothering the two adults standing with him all that much. or, perhaps they were just used to it.
with wide, intelligent eyes, m.aelstrom attempted to focus on his parents' conversation. he understood their words just fine; he had learned that ability quite quickly. it was merely the speaking he hadn't attempted too strongly just yet. a small smile of his own - one almost identical to that of g.uerilla, despite their significant age difference - spread across his own mug as he listened to their happy words about him. he was glad to please them, of course.
what else was he to do?
