Results of Carden Alvar Christmas Bird Count Posted on January 1, 2009 at 09:11:33 PM by Bob Bowles
The Carden Alvar CBC was held on Saturday, December 27, 2008. Viewing conditions were poor since we had heavy fog and light rain all day. We did observe 34 species and 2786 individual birds. Highlights were large flocks of Pine Siskins (all time high), American Goldfinches, White-winged Crossbills and Bohemian Waxwings. One Great Blue Heron, 3 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Belted Kingfisher, 2 Gray Jays, and 1 Snowy Owl were also of interest. The Redp-bellied Woodpecker which has been visiting a feeder in Victoria Road was not seen on count day but observed in count week. Replies: There have been no replies.
