Re(8): Go visit a local Social Security Rep.

My complaint is NOT with our pension. It's a wonderful plan. My complaint is with the SS WEP plan. It doesn't just impact us (TPD or TFD) but also, anyone that worked in the U.S.A. and paid into a private or public pension and not social security. Some examples are Teachers, Railroad employees, Federal employee retirement. (Opps. not foreigners, they get 100 percent) (The WEP program has a complex formula to calculate such things as the number of years you worked contributing into SS, how much you made during those years (or in some cases how little you made, just so they can void that year).

I know, Social Security was never meant to give one a secure future retirement. My complaint is that Social Security feeds to many none contributing programs, so many in fact that we should be able to deduct our social security payments on our taxes as "donations to charitable organizations."

My warning to future TPD and TFD retirees, check with social security and find out how many more years you'll need to work, after you retire from TPD/TFD to be eligible for 100 percent of your SS. They'll clue you in, and remember that letter you get from them each year, telling you what you'll get. Don't believe it, that letter only tells you what you should get, not what you will get. If you don't believe me, go ask your local social security rep.

I support the FOP for their good work in this area.
