As moderator of this board, I have been watching this discussion unfold. No one has been visiting the Carden Alvar as long as I have and right from my first visit I recognized how important this area was as an ecologicial landscape. Many of the landowners have been my close friends for many years and I have not had any problems with any of them. I respect their rights and they respect my rights. Recently, many of my birding friends have been visiting this area in large numbers. Most are very respectful of others, stay well off the road and do not trespass. However, on many occasions I have been blocked on Wiley Road while leading a trip or exploring on my own by cars owned by people their to observe and photograph the birds and plants. I have also seen birders trespass to get that important check mark beside a species that they needed or a photograph of an endangered bird in the nest. There are several professional researchers doing work on Carden and several considerate birders visiting this area to document birds. There are also several friendly and considerate landowners in the area that pay high taxes for the land. There is no reason why we all can not enjoy and protect this land together. Visitors need to be more considerate of landowners and landowners need to be more forgiving of a few individuals that ruin the birding and nature studies for the rest of us. It is time that we should all work together in understanding and protecting the Carden Alvar. I do welcome your comments on this board in an effort to resolve these conflicts. Replies:
