Hi Sandra,
DL-phenylalanine (DLPA)is an excellent pain killer, but it does take about 2 weeks to kick in. So it is more for chronic pain. Once it kicks in though the pain relieving effects are long lasting. Phenylalanine works because it is a precursor for the pain killer dopamine. Phenylalanine needs to be taken at least 30 minutes before meals.
I have never tried it, but scullcap is supposed to be a pretty good pain killer.
Otherwise I would try either GABA 750mg or ashwagandha 1,000mg 3 times daily before meals. GABA helps to block neurotransmitters, which would help control pain. Ashwagandha stimulates the GABA receptors in the brain, and also supports the adrenals to help control inflammation.
