I think it's important to remember that the development of railways in the UK was rather cut short by the availablitity (and massive subsidy) of cheap oil. I'm sure a logical route like this would have eventually been developed. Certainly the New S&D shouldn't feel hidebound by the existing routes but should consider new ones in a 21st century context and I've referred to this possible route in the past. Even the dear old SDRHT at Midsomer Norton have boldly considered a route to the west rather than the east of Shepton Mallet to take their trains southwards and closer towards Templecombe. We mustn't be straightjacketed by the past! Replies: There have been no replies.
