So I wake up today and find 18 emails from PayPal in Chinese. Didn't know I spoke Chinese. Then I see an email from PayPal stating that they changed my preferred language to English at my request. To make a long story short, the 18 emails were identical transactions for $31.25. I don't know what was supposed to have been purchased but I sure didn't purchase anything from them.The email address of the seller was from the CEO of www.challengermobile.com. It's a Swedish company that provides internet telephone service.
Since there was no money in my PayPal account, the transactions are being paid by the bank account I have set up with PayPal. The bank and PayPal have already been notified, but the payments can't be stopped. Paypal will prevent the funds from being paid to the 'seller' but the transactions will be processed and I'll have to move the money from my PayPal account back to my bank. What a pain!!!
Was I a victim of the North Korean/Chinese hackers? Who knows. But I suggest everyone check your accounts closely and spread the word. PayPal says the only way for someone to access your account is to have your password. I'm posting this everywhere.
