This is the odd thing. I've just read the current issue of 'Rail' and it's full of 70s type defeatism despite all the progress rail is currently making. They don't even take into account the coming energy crisis, and this is the RAILWAY press!! They must all be living in a dream world of endless energy. Of course we will all need accessible rail travel very soon and as you say we need to start preparing for the end of cheap energy now. We can't wait another twenty years. And by switching most freight to rail now (which will need many rail reopenings) we can extend our use of the roads for a few more years. Car drivers should be supporting us, because by getting freight off the roads then, at least for a few more years, we can almost enjoy driving again, rather than being held up by slow lorries and, worse still, buses and coaches.
This is why the Peak oil message is SO important, even if a lot of people are running scared at what it will mean for them personally so prefer to bury their heads in the sand. Replies: There have been no replies.
