TO ALL RETIREES,
In September, we will again have an election for a Fire and Police Trustee. The pension office has had concerns about previous elections and has therefore changed the way elections will be held. In the upcoming election, Jennifer Campbell has proposed a new procedure to the Board to encourage better participation in the election of Trustees. The change has been adopted. At the end of the sign up period to run for Trustee a ballot will be mailed to all eligible fund members. In effect, it will be an absentee ballot. You will no longer have to go and vote and there will be no need to have voting locations or staff to sign voters in and verify if they are eligible. So, when you get your ballot all you have to do is select your choice, mark it and return the ballot to the pension office. The ballot can be returned by mail or in person. The only "In Person Voting" will be done at the pension office. So, when you get your ballot, mark your choice and return your vote. This is a great idea and it is good that the voting method has been changed. Jennifer and her staff came up with a very good procedure that will allow all eligible fund members to have their votes counted. Once the candidates have been named the RF&PA will invite all candidates to a screening. We will then be posting the names the screening committee feel would be the best Fire and Police Trustee. There is a lot of effort going into the election so that all eligible fund members can vote. Don't waste this opportunity. You have a right to vote, use it. Thanks.
