Just the way that she was crying, where not only Lanny but the doctor could see her, indicated that Cass wasn't quite altogether with it, and likely still half-lost in the nightmare she'd been awakened by. The physician was smart enough not to reference the girl's tears again, even as she saw perfectly well that Cass was clinging to the younger man's hand like a lifeline, but when he challenged her authority, her face hardened. "And so because you can deal with it, you sit on more pins and needles than a porcupine." That was her dry comment, but before he could come up with a defensive response, or call in one of the guards to expel her, she told him quietly, "I can't tell you anything about him - the Hippocratic oath says I can't tell you anything about his health. But if you'd still like to discuss it, you'll have to leave the room and come down the hall with me." She didn't figure that Lanny would be willing to leave the distraught young woman just now, so by throwing that out there and refusing to discuss the matter in this room, she figured she'd just bought herself at least a few minutes to think out what to say to Lanny to try to control this situation before he'd get the young woman calmed down and insist upon that talk.
