TO ALL RETIREES,
On Thursday, January 28 @ 6:30, we will be holding our January General Membership Meeting. There is a lot going on in the early days of 2010. We have the Parker Lawsuit still pending and on the morning of Jan 28, a Retiree will be addressing the City Council. I understand that this Retiree will be presenting a plan for the City to change our Contract that would allow the City to take funds from our PRAA to pay for any fund losses. I am at a loss why any Retiree would want to have the City dip into the fund that pays us our cost-of-living adjustments. Didn't our organization just spend $560 thousand dollars fighting the taking of $209 Million Dollars from the PRAA to off set the last fund deficit?? How could any Retiree suggest such a foolish idea. One thing I am sure of is that the City will welcome this idea especially since it will open up the biggest part of our pension fund to them. Anyway, we will be there to see how this unfolds. At the meeting we will have Pension Trustee there to answer your questions and explain what this suggest would do to our Contract. We should also get an update on the Parker Lawsuit. Make your plans to be there, we will cover a lot of things that affect all Retirees. We will have a catered dinner for you. The meeting will be at the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, Larrick Hall, 709 W. Linebaugh Ave.. We will begin to feed everyone at 6:30 pm and the meeting begins at 7:00. Make your plans to be there. We have these meetings each quarter to keep you all posted about what is going on that affects you and your financial well being. Call a fellow Retiree and make plans to get together and come to the meeting. For those who cannot attend, we will post a summary on our web site for all to read. See you then.
