Aura’s small, porcelain white fingers curl around the edge of the wooden shaft as she voices aloud the stream of commentary provided by divinity on the Falcon Point situation. “They’re all evacuating but one. There’s a minor still inside one of the buildings – it’s too late for the rest of them to go back. I’ll have to get her.”

She runs towards the entrance of the cave, followed by a mildly amused lioness. “If you go in there, you’ll be risking your life. Your magic might not be enough for two teleports; if you can get in but not get out again, you’ll be dead too, and all that hard work everyone put into bringing you back will have been for nothing – just for an insignificant little kid.”

Aura rounds on her. “If I didn’t try I wouldn’t be doing my job. And for the record,” her snarl could match even Lauma’s most vicious; “ ‘insignificant’ is not a word which appears in my dictionary.”

The lioness’s golden eyes twinkle. “Now you’re behaving more like a deity.” Before the fairy can respond, she bumps her nose against her knee, using her own divinity to force an external teleport.

Caught by surprise, Aura lands awkwardly on the other side; her legs crumple beneath her and as the ground tilts suddenly she rolls sideways into a dresser, knocking the wind out of herself. Gasping, the little fairy with only half a soul struggles to her feet for the second time today, veering to the left as the earth shakes again, crashing into the fireplace this time. The sudden movement causes a few ornaments to fall off, bouncing off of her white-blonde head so that she can add ‘headache’ to the list of injuries she’s collecting today. There’s no time to get her breath back – the window opposite tells her that the lava will be on top of them in a matter of seconds. With a sudden burst of adrenaline Aura hurtles out of the bedroom and down the hallway, yelling loudly until she hears the rewarding sound of a child’s cry from a nearby room. Dodging a falling shelving unit (which crashes to the ground and splinters across the floor, causing her to almost slip over some of the broken pieces) she throws herself down the hall and into the room.

Little Emma is standing at the window, her face streaked with tears. Aura grabs her arm and pulls her behind her before hurling her wooden shaft at the window, face turned away so that it avoids most of the shattered fragments of glass which consequentially fly across the room. Teleporting is easier if there’s an open air supply, and she can’t afford mistakes right now. Wrapping both arms around the little girl, Aura closes her eyes against the explosion of heat and concentrates fiercely on her destination. Half a second after she and Emma vanish into thin air, the ceiling collapses and the entire house folds in on itself under the pressure of the boiling lava.
