I'm Practically Invisible, I'm Practically Alone

I can hear footsteps but am too exhausted to move. I groan and tuck Prophet closer into my paws protectively. I can feel his small hands entwined in my fur and I smile inside. Even though it had been a hard day, it had been worth it for this moment. To be ok, to be safe. I sigh heavily and listen as the footsteps get closer. They are softer, suggesting a woman rather than a man. I open one eye, scanning around but it is filled with sleep. I sneeze, trying to free myself of the fatigue and Prophet stirs, but doesn't wake. I open my other eye and look up. I stare for a moment and growl as the figure looms above me. I pull Prophet in just a little tighter, careful not to catch him with my claws but as the figure stoops, my growl stops and my black lips curve into a tired smile. Its Joanna. I look up as she holds our son in her arms. I raise wearily to my four paws and feel myself rise higher to two till I stood once again on two legs. I smile at her softly and shiver slightly, my bear chest covered in small cuts from the floor. Are You Ok? Were the only words I could force to come out of my mouth as I stare at her. I was relieved she was here, not just to take care of Prophet for a bit, but because now, she was safe.
