The Castle
the centre of royal life
The castle sits at the centre of sprawling grounds containing gardens, training arenas, barracks, the royal stables and Lake Lilith, which is fed by the River Twinge. The royal guards which are stationed at various points around the territory will occasionally check fairies’ identities but are usually happy to let visitors wander around, unless the king orders otherwise. Within the castle itself, the west wing is the personal residence of the royal family, the east wing is the home of the court and the servants’ quarters on the lower levels. The castle is practically impregnable and is well-guarded against attack.

you glow in ultra violet light; Part four

Renn watched with wide eyes as Henry left, his last words bringing a tear to her eye which she hurriedly batted away, not wanting her new friend to see her cry over her brother. She wanted Henry to look back and see her looking upset even less, Renn was a bit of a tom-boy, probably due to the fact that she had two brothers and had adapted accordingly to fit in with them, Biting her lip she watched as Henry disappeared over the top of the nearest dune, if they had not just had an argument she would have told him that it wasn’t safe for him to walk all the way back home on his own and that their Dad would be cross with him for doing so, but she knew her twin well enough to realise that such words would be wasted, especially when he was in this kind of mood. She very rarely fought with Henry, usually they got on very well indeed, Renn got on with both her brothers, but she often noticed that Flynn and Henry tended to clash a lot and were more likely to fall out with each other. Renn had never fallen out with Flynn, she often found it easier to understand his easy going nature than Henry’s hot headedness.

Eyes settled upon Jack’s for a moment, just before the first tsunami-inducing earthquake occurred, checking to see if he had stopped crying, whilst at the same time daring him to say something bad about Henry, making it clear that, although he was difficult sometimes, she would not hear a word against him. All such thoughts were abandoned however as the earth beneath her feet began to move, it gave a violent lurch and she almost fell forwards into Jack, only just managing to stop herself from crashing into him, at the last minute. Renn was only half-aware that Jack had taken hold of her hand before she began to run along-side him. She did not look back, she had not seen the wave which was coming up behind them at a terrifying speed. It was a strange moment for her to reflect that, the claws on Jack’s hand made the contact feel so different to when she clasped hands with her twin.

The wave broke over their heads and Renn felt her hand release their hold upon her new friend, as the force pushed her downwards, her lungs filling with salt-water, that last breath of air knocked from her lungs by the sheer force of the tsunami. The tide of water carried her along against her will, and as Renn’s lungs began to burn thirsting for air. The girl began to kick and an attempt to get to the surface, realising that her life probably depended on it. Suddenly she felt her head collide with something solid and reached out with her hands to grab hold of it as her forehead began to throb. Hands guided her up the surface of the rock, and when Renn’s head broke the surface of the water she took great gulps of air, clinging to the top of the great stone which had saved her.

Renn was cold, and she was very rapidly growing sleepy. She had no idea how long she had been floating there, but as the seconds ticked past, all she wanted to do was give up, let her eyes close and drift off to sleep, too young to realise that if she did so, she would probably not survive. The skin of the fingers which clung to the rock was paler than usual and felt like ice to her, when she had first surfaced she had been worried for Henry, and for Jack, but now she was just too tired to remember. It was fortunate that her two brothers found her before it was too late, and when Flynn pulled her from the water into the back of one of his totals, she finally began to cry, her head buried in his shoulder, before finally her thoughts returned to jack, “You’ve got to find Jack” the girl sobbed, looking imploringly up at her elder brother, and was relieved when he nodded. She moved onto the second turtle where Henry was sitting, their ride kept solid only by the presence of Flynn’s foot on the creature’s flipper, and her twin hugged her, “I’m sorry I made you cross Henry” Renn said to him, eyes imploring him to forgive her.

It surprised them all when Denahi jumped into the water, and they all watched as the husky puppy began to nose at something in the water, willing whatever it was to wrap its fingers in his fur. It seemed that dogs did not need to be familiars in order to help people. ”Its Jack! Flynn its Jack!” Renn shouted suddenly, and with a single nod of his head, the older boy urged the turtle forwards. Renn looked on anxiously, as first Jack and then Denahi were dragged free from the dirty water and positioned on Flynn’s turtle. “Jack?” the girl said softly, nudging him gently with the heel of her hand, “please be okay?”

Its all a game of chance in wonderland
