The silicon chip inside her head got switched to overload

Nobody’s going to go to school today, she’s going to make them stay at home

Her daddy doesn’t understand it, he always said she was good as gold

Lilith did not open her eyes as she heard Arthur’s voice addressing her younger sisters. They hugged him and ran inside to find their mother. She felt his arms around her and she sighed, leaning into his grip. “No… I’m not hurt…” She murmured quietly, before pressing her face into his chest and beginning to sob. Tears flowed down her face and she clung to Arthur, needing his support, needing him to ground her, to have her remember that there was still someone there for her.

She stayed with him, crying until she had no tears left to give. She then wiped away the salty tears which had stayed on her cheeks, before looking at him and laughing hopelessly. “Sorry… I… your shirt is all wet now…” She wiped her eyes again and sighed, before pressing her face into his shoulder, her arms wrapping around his neck. “Arthur… our homes… our lives… everything I have ever known was in the Labyrinth, or here, and now it’s all gone…”

She looked up at the sky as fairies and familiars alike sought refuge in the castle, some hopefully having heard her message, others just using common sense. The peaks, the highest points in shaman, were too cold at this time of the year, along with the added ash cloud that was blocking out what little heat that should have been covering the land. Her body shivered and she forced herself to pull away from Arthur and sit up on her own. “We should go inside…” She murmured, her skin looking paler than usual, her emerald green eyes looking slightly dull. She was so tired, she should have been asleep.

Shakily, she stood, leaning on Arthur for support, before allowing him to take her into the castle. “There is some food that I bought with me… Just there…” She gestured to the bag that had been dropped that was bursting full of food. “It’s not much, but it should help…” Emerald eyes looked around at the people who were gathered around each other, trying to keep warm. “If you find Sera, she should be able to keep some people warm if we don’t have enough dry wood to burn yet.” She rubbed her eyes again, exhausted. Mallos had been in her head again… It always took it out of her; she was drained, mentally, for days afterwards. Arthur always seemed to see the difference in her, especially as the nightmares were coming more often now.

Her eyes lingered on the people, the fairies in all shapes and sizes who had been forced into the castle. There seemed to be enough room for everyone, but room was not the issue. Food was always going to be the issue. “How much food have we got, Arthur?” The familiars were beginning to return, which meant that the ones that flew could help by taking fairies out to fish, or hunt for rabbits and other animals that may have survived the waves. Not everything could be dead…
Plus, there had to be animals floating about, killed by the waters. They would have to take what they could get. Gods, those thoughts seemed to be morbid, more so than usual. “We have to get everything ready, get places for people to sleep, rations, and have people guarding the food so that none of it is stolen… We can not risk someone stealing the food…” She stumbled, reaching out and holding onto Arthur for stability. She was trying to do too much too fast, it was not like she had completely recovered from the wounds that she had endured in the battle with Arthur, and some of these had been made worse by escaping the flood waters with help from Seth. If Seth was not bound to her, she had no idea what would have happened. He knew he could not let her die, why though? Did he know that he would die too? Maybe that was what happened if a sefert failed his task? She had not asked him; even though the information was bred into him she had not wanted to know how he would act without their link. Who was to think something like this would happen? Nobody should come up with these ideas… nobody but her father… that evil being who had created her out of pain and rape. She would fight him to the last though… He would not win…
