The Castle
the centre of royal life
The castle sits at the centre of sprawling grounds containing gardens, training arenas, barracks, the royal stables and Lake Lilith, which is fed by the River Twinge. The royal guards which are stationed at various points around the territory will occasionally check fairies’ identities but are usually happy to let visitors wander around, unless the king orders otherwise. Within the castle itself, the west wing is the personal residence of the royal family, the east wing is the home of the court and the servants’ quarters on the lower levels. The castle is practically impregnable and is well-guarded against attack.

BRYCE
suicide is the only way out of here

He was scared to return. While he could run as fast as Renegade now, and for as long, he was scared to return with the wolf by his side. As they flew through the undergrowth, his feet barely touching the ground, his thoughts were almost completely on Poppy. Why, he didn’t know. Was he scared to see her again? Yes.

The wolf beside him was set with hard eyes, glad to be returning to Shaman with his fairy by his side. Bryce had left to learn a new trade, and was more inclined to the shadows than ever before. By any accounts, he was now, pretty much a ninja. Instead of the sword and shield, two small curved swords were at his side, his sword on his back – but it was bigger, like it had been seamlessly added to. His clothes were black, kyahan, skin tight cotton breeches and black silent chainmail. He looked like a very emo ninja, admittedly, but with the ease he moved he clearly preferred his new fighting rule. Feet moving swiftly, Renegade watched his steps. He moved like a predator, like one of his own. Pride surged through him for his fairy, inside happy that he was no longer a blundering knight relying on strength. ”You suit being one of the shadows,” He commented dryly, watching Bryce’s slight move of the head and then closing his mouth so he could concentrate on running.

They weren’t very far from Shaman, not any more. Paws and feet beat against the ground, and for a while they ran as one. When they came ever closer, the ground became wetter than usual, so Bryce took to the sparse trees, leaping from branch to branch like a seasoned ninja (more like an idiot, but don’t tell him that) then as he came to a vantage point from wherever he was, he noted most of it was flooded, and his eyes narrowed. ”We’ll be swimming, Renegade. If it’s all flooded, we will try the core. Okay?” The wolf saw into Bryce’s head, watching as thoughts of Poppy, and everyone else he had knew of in Shaman. A slight smile tugged at his cold lips. What was he to say to her? “Hey, sorry I bounced out on the first date, but I wanted to become a ninja.” It would’ve been better if she had came too, but something told him she wouldn’t want to be a ninja.

Renegade howled and overtook Bryce, who landed lightly on the soggy ground and chased his familiar. He didn’t have much fun anymore, for some reason, but he didn’t mind. The speed he had was still mind blowing. The wolf turned round and looked at his fairy.

”It’s really rather wet.” Dry sarcasm dripped from Renegade’s words as Bryce flew into the wetness, shivering and holding his swords, Renegade turning his nose up at the water but following his fairy, both taking strong, powerful strokes.

A little while later, they reached the core.

It was pretty much nighttime. Bryce was soaked through, but didn’t complain, keeping his mouth above the water and Renegade whining behind him. As they struggled through wet fur and clothes to the higher regions and collapsed against the wall, Bryce took deep breaths and turned. ”If someone is exploring...” He thinks to Renegade, who shrugs his exhausted shoulders. Bryce would of hated to see someone without his conditioning and stamina try to attempt that with the same restless pace. A pale hand shook his hair, and Bryce took a previously hidden bag from his back, containing his ever precious guard gear.

Renegade glanced at Bryce and watched how he treated the stuff that he used to wear as a blundering knight. A small smile tugged at the wolf’s lips and he howled in happiness at being in a dry area. Someone might of heard, but who cared? If anyone recognised Renegade’s howl he’d be rather surprised. A wolf howl can be unique, but only if you listen to every tone. To an uneducated person, they were pretty much the same.

Bryce put his wet hand on Renegade, comforting him as they rested. His guard gear was back in the unnoticeable bag on his back, and swords wiped from the wetness.

They duo were back in Shaman.

”why is it that we fight?”
“that’s for you to you to decide. i fight to embrace my dreams.”
