Al stared at the man and then something behind him caught his eye and the movement of his own eyes reminded him of when he used to follow the wild animals and how they’d shift but all he was looking at was a shadow of the wind moving a leaf it was nothing. What did he mean he wasn’t going to kill him, he’s just a boy, was it because he was a boy or was his being a boy because he wouldn’t die? Were the two statements really linked? And did that mean he didn’t think of himself as a boy? What did he think of himself as, because he probably didn’t think he was never going to die and he seemed to think that boys didn’t die or get killed or something. Al just kept looking at him, thinking about this, and then the myriad of sounds which the forest was continually producing concentrated in one snap behind him, he noticed it because the man looked nervous because of it. No, no one follows me no one cares. There’s a castle though that’s where everyone is, because they’re scared about the floods. I thought everyone was there but you’re not you’re here. Are you sure you’re not lost? I think that we’re all lost. His eyes unfocused, not looking at the man any more. He was thinking about how his mommy was lost, always lost except she sometimes thought she knew what was going on. She was wrong there was nothing right about how she saw the world except she knew that Alistar would protect her; that was right. And his little brother. But he wasn’t important, really, except that Al would hate anyone who hurt him, that was all. Maybe he’d be important later. Or something. Or maybe that’s just because you seem lost, it’s all perception. Where do you live? Where are you going? What’s your name? most people are 90% metaphor |
