It was in the coldest of the night, that I knew you were watching

The sun was gone for the night, but it would be back. That was the beauty of the relationship between people, and the sun. It always returned, no matter what. It stuck around just long enough to make people happy, glowing, warm, then it left just long enough so you would never take it for granted. Deor knew his family was not coming back, so unlike the sun, the relationship he had between them was over and they were never going to return in his life. This strange boy was the closest thing he had to comfort at the moment.

The wind danced around the two boys- Deor although man like in appearance, was still a boy at heart- the wind carried fallen pedals from a dying flower. They lifted through the air effortlessly; circling the two before the wind disappeared leaving the pedals to fall pitilessly to the hard ground. Everything was still, he air, the sky, the full moon that shined through the trees… the only movement was the cautious sway of Deor as he stood hungry, vulnerable, and tired.

He sighed; it was long and exhausted and captured his dampened heart. His one sigh nearly told the story of his almost forgotten life. He knelt the ground and let his muscles cease and breath in some oxygen. “So much is wrong my new friend. My family is gone… more than gone, they were…. Murdered” It was the first time he had heard himself say it, it become even more real at that point. “I do not even know who did it…. It was the fires, from the heavens raining down on our village, we did nothing, I did nothing to deserve this.” it all began to pour out of Deor like the flood gates had opened. He did not want to feel like this anymore, he wanted hope. He wanted to feel warm again, safe, and happy. “I shouldn’t be telling you all of this… but yes I’ll go with you, I need food and sleep and I am sure you do too”

Deor was heard of Apeliotes Island as well, but he did not know much about it. His father and mother did not was him to venture past their land, they had some history with the people in the distance and choose at a young age to keep their distance and settle in a far away land where they could live in isolation. As a result, Deor has not developed the skills he needs to survive easily on his own, let alone outside of everything he has ever known…. But with some help, there is no doubt he can make it work. He almost smiled, his lips curled and he stood from the ground he knelt on. “Well Alistar, I guess we stumbled upon each other at the right time… and you’re right, I am alive.” he felt a hint of hope that the future over on the island might be better…
