I remained stood on the shore for quite a short amount of time, watching the waves lap like giant tongues against the shore. Damn water, I mean, I hated fire, like, hated fire, but water pissed me off just as much. It had already stolen one packet of my cigarettes while I was in Silver Cove and now it was here to swallow us all up like a giant monster from the horror movies coming to kick the living daylights out of the hero and the broad. But I watch it nevertheless, the sight sort of mesmorising, relaxing. But as the cigarette burns slowly down, the breeze that comes with the water ruffles me a little and so, flicking the small cancer stick into the ocean, I turn to return to the castle where everyone is. There is no food here, so I will try again later.
But as I turn, I see that there is a woman coming towards me. She seems a little odd, even in the way she moves, way she smells I can tell that much. I notice that she is coming towards me and I don't move to meet her. I had no clue who she was and whenever I met someone like that, it unnnerved me after the last incident where I met two skitzo's with a murder issue. It had been like playing a game of cluedo. But I wait for her to approach and when she does, she is saying something about assumptions, boys, lions, army men. I raise a brow slighty but don't comment as she comes closer. The woman doesn't waste any time in introducing herself and I find a smile creeping onto my lips. She seems to realise time doesn't matter here and stops midsentence so I take the opportunity to respond.
Nice to meet you Charlotte, I'm Blake.
I take her hand and do not shake it but instead place my cold lips to the back of her hand before letting go. Old fashioned I know, but it was the way I was. She asks me if she can have a cig and I find myself smiling even wider. Finally! Someone else that smoked in this place. I pull out the packet and remove three cigarettes. Even though I'd just had one, I put one in my own mouth. Then I hand one to her. The third, I place behind her ear.
There you go, one for now, one for later.
I smile at her and hold out the lighter. As the small flame erupts from it, I flinch but don't put it out until both our cigarettes are lit. Once done so, I put the packet and the lighter away before observing her again.
So, what brings you to stand at the shore this fine, well, shitty day?
I ask before falling silent and watching her quietly.
