There's a hole in the world like a great black pit
and it's filled with people who are filled with shit!
And the vermin of the world inhabit it!

Itzal settled at Charlotte’s feet, looking up at her intently as she ran her fingers through his fur, before closing his eyes and resting his head on her lap, clearly enjoying the sensation. Adonis raised an eyebrow at Charlotte as she mentioned that Mallos was Hitler. Now, the problem with growing up in a different dimension to Earth was that he did not get these references, like Poppy talking about Star wars, he just did not understand so he resorted to smiling and nodding.
“Whatever works for you.” He smiled and looked at her, his eyes almost identical to his familiars, their hair the same colour, the same texture. Hell, when Adonis was in his wolf form, you could not tell the difference between the two. From a slight mental prod from Adonis, Itzal wrapped himself around Charlotte’s legs, trying to keep some of her heat in so that she would no longer feel the cold. He hummed, almost like a purr, gently with approval as she said she was more interested in Itzal than talking horses. He opened on eye when she said that she had one question, this received a stare from Adonis as he waited for her question.

Then she asked it.
Itzal lifted his head off her lap and looked at his soul mate, suddenly aware of the tension that had appeared out of what seemed like nowhere. Adonis had not removed his gaze from Charlotte, and had attempted not to let any feelings show. From Itzal’s face, he was not doing well.
“I was one of the first to come to Shaman. I… There was a girl. Torrin.” He swallowed hard and looked away from her. Itzal whined and nuzzled his soul mate’s hand. “She had to go away, so I took over the Shady Labyrinth. Ever since then I have tried to make it a safe place to live…” He rubbed Itzal’s head softly for a few moments before sighing and leaning back against the wall as calmly as he could. “I’ve… I mean, there was Siobhan but she’s…” He put his head in his hands, regretting talking to her for a mere moment. “We grew apart. I mean. She’s very…”

The wolf finally piped up. “Adonis, shut up.” His tone was soothing. “You really do not need to explain, okay?” He gave Charlotte a look. Clearly it had been a long time since Adonis had been asked about himself. He was not used to it. After calming himself he looked up at the children who were playing in his coat.
“They are not mine… They are Mallos’. Most of them do not know. I try to make it so that they can grow up without their bloodlines mattering. They all figure it out eventually, I mean, how long can you grow up with some funky powers and not realise that your parents were a bit different…” He looked at them, clearly trying to move the conversation away from the subject of himself. He had all the important information out of there though. He lived in Shady Labyrinth, and his relationships had been complicated at best. Also, he needed his familiar to tell him to shut up sometimes, because he was not used to people focusing on how he felt. Nobody ever really cared…. How was he supposed to react after gods knew how many years of ruling a land, looking after everyone else, and nobody looking after him? He had been alone since long before Siobhan had left him. He had been alone because she had not noticed when he needed her. Their relationship, if it was even that, had been over long ago.
