"You take the Breath right out of me
And left a hole where my heart should be..."

Something had changed in Shaman over the past couple of days. There was something on the wind, something in the earth, something burning within everyone, something flowing in the waters of Shaman. Nothing could explain it. I couldn't explain it. All I knew was that I didn't like it. One. Little. Bit. The wolf in me was chewing through the bars, the invisible barrier between me and itself. It was the way all shapeshifters were, we took upon the essence of that which we had within us. But this ... thing... that was happening to everyone was beginning to break bonds, tear apart every bit of fibre which we were made of. Every bit of fibre, I was made of. I paced up and down pointlessly by the water's edge every day, trying to figure it out, but I could not. Inside, the burning got stronger, the need to eat, the need to hunt, the need to mate.

I was stood once again by the water's edge, pacing this day. My heart was thudding hard against my chest and my head was pounding. The sun was slowly setting behind me and I knew that I would have to go back to the castle soon else if I slipped, I might drown. The gold cast by the sun spilled out like a knocked over can of paint, the grass which was damp with due soaking it up like hungry animals. I turned and watched it for a moment, entirely mesmorised by its glow. I loved the moon, that was in my nature, but that of the sun was something that triggered my memories, my dreams. My time back on Earthen before here. I see as the smiling face disappears behind the castle and then walks to the other side of the earth. And that's when it happens, my head explodes and I fall to the floor.

It was like there were claws inside my head, scratching against my skull. I shouted out sharply and felt all my thoughts disapainting. Everything was changing around me. I no longer took interest in the sun, in the smells. I tried to get to a grip, a grip on reality and on my thoughts. I crawled over to the water and shoved my head in before pulling it back out, inhaling deeply. The air was fresh and crisp. But the pain had not yet gone. I growled, but this time, it came from deep within my chest. I looked into the water and saw my eyes were no longer green but bright blue, like that of the wolf. I shuffled away from the water's edge clutching my head until alas, the pain was gone. I lay on the ground for a moment, feeling the grass. It was so beautiful. I could smell the earth beneath it. I looked around, confusion. Something had changed. Everything had changed. I heard footsteps. Curious. Curious indeed.

"You've got to fight just to make it through
Cause I will be the death of You."
