the past was a golden place Lilith

The door creaked on its hinges, and Arthur’s grey eyes travelled automatically in that direction, a small smile creeping its way onto his face as Lilith stepped into the room. It was reduced somewhat by the realisation of how tired and strained she looked. Her skin appeared to be pale, and there were dark circles under her eyes. He knew, of course, what it was that was troubling her, bad dreams of Mallos had plagued her almost every night, and the hours sleeplessness were staring to take their toll. As she moves across the room towards the bed, the young King moves over slightly, to make more room for her, waits for her to lie down, and then as she rests her head on his bare chest, blond hair tumbling over her slender shoulders, he rests his arm around her, holding her to him protectively. He wished he could protect her, from the things she saw when she was asleep, from the thoughts she had when she was awake, the worries which had plagued her for months now.

When Lilith asks for some wine, Arthur nodded, passing her the engraved goblet, resting his now-free hand on the top of his leg casually, waiting for her to hand it back to him, simply enjoying the comfortable silence which had fallen. He found he was really enjoying the peace which was slowly beginning to descend over the castle once more, as each of the territories emerged from beneath the waters, and people returned to their homes in an attempt to rebuild whatever it was that they had lost. He made almost daily trips to the Labyrinth to help out, and this had put another load on his mind. His mother had not been there all that frequently, at least not as often as he would have expected. Arthur could not help but wonder where she went, and had tried asking Avalon, but the hare had simply looked really awkward and taken the first opportunity to run an errand.

”Too long,” he sighed in reply as Lilith spoke once more, taking the goblet back and raising it to his own lips once more. “Far too long, you know I’ve almost forgotten what its like to have time to myself?” His brow furrowed once more, remembering what Osiris had told him about the next curse, about what had happened to Aura, what could happen to Lilith, or worse, to him. He didn’t want to hurt her, whether it was in some wild state or not, it didn’t matter, he really did not want to risk it. Arthur wanted to say something to her, suggest that they keep apart until the whole thing had blown over, but for some reason to it died on his lips and he kept his silence. ”I missed you too” he told her, smiling slightly once more, running a hand through her hair. “How are you holding up?”
