trying to find a reason; Candil

“You guys all warm enough?” Cas asked his three children who were all sitting in one of the castle’s many rooms covered with several blankets. Whilst Castiel and Candil had been busy in the Labyrinth helping Adonis to rebuild everything, the children had been staying in the drier, and safer castle, which had been growing steadily emptier since the flood waters had begun to recede. Behind him, Flynn’s husky puppy familiar was chasing Renn’s toucan around the room, barking excitedly, whilst Fitzroy was bothering Monifa who was looking out of the nearby window at the dreary grey clouds outside. ”Aura, I hope it doesn’t rain!” the Caracal said with a sigh, doing her best to ignore the younger and significantly more energetic familiars all around her, ”I think I’ve seen enough water to last me a life time.” Cas nodded, before jumping as something was knocked on the floor with a great crashing noise. Denahi and Nico froze where they were, whilst Fitzroy flung himself on the bed next to Henry, and started to join in with the now-giggling twins.

Flynn rolled his eyes, throwing off the blankets, “Right!” Castiel shouted raising his voice slightly, as all the faces in the crowded room turned in his direction, “you two should have been asleep hours ago!” he continued, pointing at Henry and Renn, “and I want no arguments on that one.” Whilst he was saying this Flynn had crossed the room and grabbed hold of the husky puppy’s collar, pulling him away from the toucan. “Flynn,” Cas went on, “take Den out for a walk in the yard or something, and are you okay to keep an eye on your brother and sister for a couple of hours?” Flynn nodded, watching as the cheetah and Toucan settled down beside their owners. “Henry, Renn, Flynn is in charge okay? So you listen to him,” the twins nodded in unison to response to this as Flynn and his familiar slipped out through the door.

Cas had never planned to have any of his children, and had certainly never expected to have two come along at once, and he often became stressed when left with them all. Flynn was nearly eleven now, and never complained about being left with his siblings, Cas often felt guilty about leaving them with him, and tried to give Flynn plenty of time to spend time on his own in compensation. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, the man watched the twins as they both drifted off to sleep, waiting for his older son to get back.

It was not long until the room door opened once more and Flynn’s head appeared around the door, entering the room followed by Denahi. “Okay Champ,” Cas said getting to his feet and pulling on his coat, “Arthur’s in the castle if you need anything or something goes wrong or whatever, and I got you a new book, it’s on the table by the window, I’ll be as quick as I can.”
