Jensen & Kopa
rulers and guardians of the vista mountain

Kopa heard footsteps coming along the corridor, the unmistakable scent of fairy reaching his nose. He glanced back into the room at Jensen who did not show any sign that he had heard anything. The white-lion sighed as the footsteps came to a halt, his master might not be, but Kopa was very sociable. He could still smell fairy, but the footsteps had stopped. Puzzled Kopa got to his feet, his shaggy head appearing around the door-frame peering down the corridor until his eyes fell upon the girl a few paces away. The lion withdrew his head back around the door and padded across the wooden floorboards of the room to nuzzle Jensen with his nose. The man smiled sadly, reaching up with a hand and scratching his familiar’s ear absent-mindedly, before letting his hand fall back against his lap. “Can I go and talk to people?” Kopa asked tilting his head, “I don’t want to leave if you want me to stay.” Jensen shook his head to show that he didn’t mind, whilst Kopa looked thoughtful, “or,” the lion said grinning, “you could come with me!”

His teeth closed lightly around some of the material of Jensen’s shirt and he tugged on it encouragingly. Again Jensen shook his head. Kopa sighed, sitting down dejectedly, he hated his fairy being miserable, and he wished he could think of a way to make him happy, but the things which were making him act this was wasn’t the sort of thing you could easily fix. The large feline turned once more and padded out of the room, taking a couple of steps towards the girl. “Hey” he said with a smile, tilting his head to one side, ”are you looking for someone or..?”

Jensen watched the lion leave, running a hand over his shortly cropped hair, the familiar rumble of Kopa’s voice reaching his ears as it drifted along the corridor. He often wished he could be more like his familiar, the lion always seemed so trouble free and happy, permanently happy, which Jensen did often find a little disturbing and very annoying. He could not shun the animal though, because no matter how irritating his over-the-top enthusiasm was, he did truly care, and for Jensen, who could not remember having that sort of thing before, it meant a great deal, more than he would ever openly admit to anyone.
