This land is closed. No herds can live here.

Sam gazed around the land. The willows draped pale green tendrils into the water like they were coaxing it into submission. But water could never be persuaded, tender words had no effect on its chosen course. When it decided to yell and rage and swell without worry, and it became full of hate and vengeance for those crimes you never realised you committed.. Well things could get messy, Sam knew that. Rolling carcases, high pitched yelps messy. But it was best not to think of that.
He shifted slightly to give Azami an easier resting point. It felt nice having her like that – comforting, reassuring. Sam didn’t want to move. “It is, isn’t it?” Some lands seemed grey and dry, barren rock faces demanding attention over stick like trees. It wasn’t like that here, you’d find more leaves around than stone. The majesty of nature all around them. It was enough to make him want to do something -- crazy. Well crazy for Sammy boy, meaning an activity that a number of people do everyday.
“I think I want to join the light kingdom.” He turns, breaking the contact to look Azami anxiously in the face, searching for her approval. “I mean, keep a herd here but also help out there. What do you think?” A kingdom might be able to teach him how to fight and how to talk, to be able to scare off aggressors from his home territory. Besides there might be somebody wise there who knew about the demons. If Sam wanted to look after Azami he’d have to get rid of those, otherwise they might get to her too.
