To All Retirees,
Last night we had our July Membership meeting. JJ Oliva and his wife Vicki cooked and served up a delicilous spaghetti dinner. For those of you who did not attend, let me tell you that you missed a good dinner and a good meeting. In addition to our good dinner we held our election of Officers for the next term. The Members elected Aubrey Grant as the new Fire VP, JJ Oliva as the new Treasurer, Larry Vincent (me) as the new Police VP and Tommy DePolis as the new President. At the meeting, Vicki Oliva brought a request for assistance for a friend of hers. Her friend has terminal cancer, two young children and a husband. They are in dire financial straits. Vicki asked for donations from you Members to help this young family. Most Members, if not all, donated. Then we had the 50/50 drawing and Manuel Solar won half of the money in the pot. Manuel immediately called Vicki over and handed her the money he had just won. Then, newly elected President Tommy DePolis came up and asked the Members if they would agree to give the other half of the 50/50 drawing to Vicki's friend. The Membership agreed unanimously. So, the entire proceeds of the 50/50 went to this young family in need. This family is not a Police or Fire family, just people in need with a heavy load to carry. We thank Manuel Solar and the Membership for their generosity to this needy family. I was very proud to see this reaction for our Members. Remeber, "But for the Grace of God, there go I." Once again, the openess and caring of you Members have come to the front. I am proud to be one of you.
