The silicon chip inside her head got switched to overload

Nobody’s going to go to school today, she’s going to make them stay at home

Her daddy doesn’t understand it, he always said she was good as gold

Lilith felt herself shudder as she walked past the few people who still inhabited the core; her mind was open to the thoughts that they were having. This was her automatic response to loosing her voice. She opened her mind to people, to familiars, to the world. Hell, she heard the mutters of the felines as they walked past her. She had given them orders that on no occasion should they catch any of the rats roaming the castle. Anything that was not a rat, or a familiar, they could eat what they liked.

She stepped out of the darkness and tilted her head, seeing Blake – at least she thought it was Blake – sitting down near the main hall. She tilted her head and walked towards him. She was dressed casually, but in Arthur’s royal colours, and her own. She had an emerald cloak on, covering her golden tunic and purple trousers. Her feet were bare, as per usual. The castle had warmed and the stone floor did not bite at the soles of her feet as it had done in the winter. She looked at Blake and smiled kindly. She had spent a lot of time in the castle getting to know people when the flood had ruined Shaman.

“Hello, Blake.” Her mind reached out and touched his, her voice having been stolen by the latest curse. She did not know which of his senses had been taken, so he may not have been able to hear her even if she did have her voice. “Would you like some company?” Her soft voice would echo in his mind once again. She always had the impression of someone who would sit and listen, and very rarely let out her own feelings. But she did, only to certain people. Arthur and Adonis knew most of how she felt. To everyone else she kept up a mask, shielding what she really felt. She had to be strong, had to be brave for her mother, her sisters and her brothers, and for everyone in Shaman who looked to her. She sat down next to him in the silence for a while. She did not need to speak. She just needed to listen. It was what she was meant for. Those ears were not for display. She could hear a bug crawling through the doors of a room in the next corridor.
But right now that was not what she was needed for. She could tell that he needed someone, and maybe someone who was not as close to his personal life was what he needed.
