Lilith couldn’t help but grin as he stood, stunned by her appearance. She blinked her large eyes and moved towards the table and him as he spoke. She simply shrugged at the compliment and kissed him softly on the lips, before sitting down in the chair that he held out for her. He had always been a gentleman, and had got used to the treatment on the rare occasions that they ate together.
When Arthur asked if she was hungry, she held her tongue as she sat on the chair. Before the curses she would have grinned widely and said “I’m starving”. But having actually been starving had changed her opinions on making light of the situation. Instead she simply nodded and said yes. The cat-girl’s ears twitched as Arthur bowed his head and thanked his god – the old god that he used to worship in his first life – for the meal. She didn’t laugh at him, instead she closed her eyes and sent up a silent prayer, to Aura knows who, hoping for the protection of Shaman when her father should returned.
As they ate they discussed idle things, nothing anyone said had much substance, but it felt nice to just be together. She spoke about her younger sister and her nephew, who was growing quickly, and appeared to have some abilities inherited from the pair and their grandparents. The evening passed without incident, and she felt more than relaxed as the candles died down. As Arthur stood up and filled her glass she smiled and let him take her hands and lead her towards the window. She leaned towards him sighing.
“The night is beautiful.” But she felt a slight sadness inside, knowing that she would not have many chances to just relax and watch the beauty of the world as it passed by. And Arthur continued to speak. They needed to find a way to weather the future, to outlast the changing times. She smiled and nodded. And then he took out the box.
She fell silent.
She watched as the dragon made itself visible.
And Arthur spoke. He said those fateful words.
In the corner of the room Seth lifted his currently feline head with a look of surprise and excitement. Lilith clasped one hand over her mouth as her eyes watered, and gasped at him. Her eyes met Arthurs and there was a few long moments of silence.
“YES! Oh my gods, Arthur, yes!” She grabbed him in a hug and kissed him hard, never wanting to let him go, almost forgetting about the ring in his hand. She pulled away slightly, her face had gone bright red and her composed face had gone. She all but bounced on the spot with him, and Seth tilted his head from the corner, wondering if he could go over to hug it out yet.
