"Their actions are unpredictable," the young woman corrected quietly, shaking her head some and tapping her fingers idly on one of her arms. "But their motive is clear. They want Raine - and they want me out of the way. But my death would draw too much attention in this city; I may not be the most prominent of our figures here, but I've enough influence that the gang would make their lives significantly difficult if any harm came to me. They'll seek an alternate route. Thus their search for 'neurotic characteristics'." She spat those words as though they tasted foul in her mouth, and seated herself again, reaching to run her fingers softly through her daughter's vermilion ringlets. "But they won't get you without me, love... we're a package deal, the two of us." That was said to the infant, who burbled a bit of nonsense and reached to try to capture her mother's arm. Cass let her have it, and with the other hand reached for the diaper bag to dig out a toy, and give the child something to do. When she spoke up again, it was meant for the men as well. "We'll figure out what to do once your brother gets here. His plans for defense while we're here will determine how far we can go with asking our questions."
(did you get them all taken in? had mungo's eye cleared up at all when you did?)
