East of Rushing Rivers lies Emerald Forest, where ancient trees shade much of the territory except for those rare patches where beautiful meadows, like treasures, are hidden.

Fireflake moved lightly over the terra as a dancer moves over the studio floor, his orbs focused intently on something just barely visible on the horizon. He had been following the faint scent of water for the last mile or so and now that he was in an open meadow he could add the sight of the spring on the far side to his newfound knowledge of this area. Being able to find this stream again the next time he needed to slake his thirst would be quite useful. Moreover he would be able to point the mares he was trying to his herd in this direction and possibly win them over to his side by demonstrating his knowledge of the area. As he approached the stream he noted the many small muskrat holes that littered the banks, he would need to be cautious and not allow himself to catch a hoof in any of them. As he picked his way through the muskrat holes and to the shallows he pondered on this new place he had so recently arrived in, it was so different than the deserts he had been born into. He had only seen a few sparse beaches, which sported the sand he was so accustomed to feeling shift under his hooves as he gallops. The propensity of the wide-open meadows and shaded forest paths of this new area to contain roots and holes were all a new experience to him. As was the notion that it might be better to stay hidden in the thickets instead of finding a flat unobstructed tract of land for sleeping at night. The thickets felt closed and claustrophobic to him, in the back of his mind lives a fear of being trapped with a predator coming to him. In his youth he was taught that flight was always preferable to fighting, but in these backwards parts the logic of trying to flee seems so wrong. Holes where a hoof could get caught abound and unfortunately all to often the paths he has followed to escape from one thicket only lead into another just as hard to escape from and as frustrating to his hatred of being enclosed. Fireflake has finally decided that finding a meadow in which to sleep might be his best option but he knows of some of the hazards of a meadow as well, the propensity of long grass to disguise a divot or some other danger is something he has always struggled with when he visited the oasis nearest to his birthplace. He finally lowers his muzzle to the fresh flowing water, this was the only good thing about this new place, there is no shortage of water here. His first night in this water rich land her had guzzled enough of the sweet spring water that he had become sick. He had to adjust slowly to having enough water after spending all of his young life drinking less than the normal horse. Satisfied he turned and started slowly back the way he had come, back across the meadow and then trying to melt into the shadows of the forest. This forest, Emerald Forest as it were was where he hoped to make his new home. He raised his dial to the winds and cried for all to hear, "I Fireflake claim this terra for me and mine."
