An inward wave of concern flickered through him like the flames he carried. The beautiful mare was sobbing and bleeding on the rocks they both stood upon. He didn't have the ability to read minds, but he knew that there was a deep darkness surrounding her heart, choking it, squeezing the life out of it. He wanted to stomp on that black snake, free her from choking on her misery. Looking into her graceful, you-just-wanna-get-lost-in mocha orbs, he hated that the frozen tears were still pouring from them. Broken inhaled deeply, stretching his muzzle out to her. She then spoke to him, in between those great sobs that wracked his own heart and soul to the core. There was something about her that reminded him of his past, how it hurt so badly that you wanted to die, to drown yourself in that raging river, throw yourself against that wolf-like rock and bash your head in, never having to think- or remember- anything ever again.
“You must be thinking…” she starts unsteadily, her voice tripping over the words that would have, at any other time, come out perfectly steady, “t-that I am nothing. A-and it is t-true, that I h-have no p-power here anymore. F-friendless, rank-less, I am nothing b-but a disgrace.”
Such courage it took for her to get on her own wobbly, bleeding, pillars, and face him in the midst of her agony.
He took a step closer to her, watching her close her eyes, and as he touched her neck with his velvety black muzzle, his muscles quivering, she ceased her tears, only to have them freeze upon her golden cheeks. Unsure of how she would react, he slowly and gently rubbed his dial on her neck, hoping to calm her down. Then he spoke, his deep baritones reverberating in her ears. "No, never that. You seem to be many things, but a disgrace," he caught her eyes with his own dark, depthless ones, "-not in any lifetime. And, as for friendless," he gently tilted her chin up with his muzzle, still holding her eyes with his,"you've got this guy standing right in front of you." Broken back away slightly, his flames licking along his spine and weaving in and out of his mane and tail. The blood red ruby on his chest, a symbol of his heart, moved with a life all its own. He was hoping, desperately hoping, that this mare would take his actions the right way. Please, see the words I am saying as the truth; I only want you to see that no matter what, there is something worth living for, he thought.
