The pine marten nodded, then heaved a sigh as Calypso started moving again, following her laboriously through the cold. Then, suddenly, the snow gave way beneath his paws and he tumbled down into a hidden hole. A hidden hole full of wam, squirming life.

It was evidently the nest of some snow bird or other, and Bumblebee let out a squeak of joy at such rich pickings. With a flash of his jaws, he killed two of the chicks, leaving three still I. The nest. This was, he considered, extremely fair.

He ate one immedietly and picked the other body up; he would carry it until he found a safer place to eat. He gently recovered the nest with snow to keeP the survivors safe until their mother returned. Muzzle smeared with blood and feathers, he set off through the wall of snow with renewed strength, the tiny corpse still warm in his jaws.
