LOOK AT WHAT THE LIGHT DID NOW

With his mother curled up against him, the colt felt much warmer. And little did he know, but the snow provided some insulation against the cold night time winds. He pushes himself up against his mother as best he could, closing his eyes and eventually falling asleep, already tired of this winter. He had chosen the wrong time to be born, it would seem.

Adeline had been so busy staring at her son to pick up the sounds of someone approaching, which was a bad sign for the new mother. Even through her new deep love for her son, she should have been more alert. What if the approaching wolf was not an Axian, but a scout for a pack? So, when Adeline feels a warm nuzzle, she spooks, her muscles tensed in a moment of panic before she realized who exactly was standing behind her. With an embarassed smile the mare lifts her head to look to the bay stallion, the night time and her sleepy state blurring his features, although she had no doubts that it was in fact Dante. She smiles as she sees him, reaching to return the nuzzle. It was awkward being on the ground with her son, their son, and trying not to disturb him with her movements. She wants to say something to him, but the silence surrounding them was so precious she holds back.

Slowly the mare moves her body just so, revealing the slumbering colt so his father could see him. He was so peaceful looking, so serene, and Adeline was already so in love with him. She watches for the same sort of reaction from Dante, unsure about what he would say and do. The dun mare knew Dante would make a good father (why would she have decided to bear his children if he wasn't), but she saw the love and affection he showed the colt and it warmed her heart. Divina too came to inspect everything, nudging the sleepy looking white rabbit. It wasn't just the horses becoming parents, but the Axian too. Which reminded Adeline of Dorian, who was perched silently in the tree above, watching the happenings with curious but apprehensive eyes. He was certainly happy that the child had arrived safely, but it was all too much for the golden monkey to take in and needed more time to become comfortable around the fresh life.

At the nudge from his father, the colt blinks open gummy eyes, unfocused but faintly aware that there was another around because he could smell it. A heavy sigh passes between slightly parted lips before his head drops heavily against his mother's belly.

When Dante speaks, Adeline tears her eyes from the colt, blinking in a confused manner as she tried to understand exactly what he was saying. Why was he asking her? But then she remembered that foals weren't born with names, they had to be given to them. "I nearly forgot that they needed names," she says sheepishly, looking back to the colt and hare for a moment. "What about Elliot? Elliot and Beatrice? Does that suit them Dante? Our son Elliot?" She had brought their first child to life, but she hadn't imagined that naming him would be such a task.
