The dawn crackled softly as the fiery vapors of her breath met the cold-kissed morning, splitting the peacefully suffocating silence. She moved forward with a long ago lost elegance, hooves crushing the crystallized sprouts of grass that were slowly peeking their way out of their insolated womb of soil. The tempted promise of warm spring weather had caused the buds and weeds to begin making their appearance. A layer of decaying plant-flesh- remnants of a once abundant life now lost- perpetually trapped the seeds beneath a permafrost layer of ice which was slowly melting returning the water to the soil. It completed the cycle, bringing its body to feed nutrients to the tender new plant life as it ventured into a startling new sun shiney world. Spring: it was the ever most symbolic time of rebirth and change, a time for those once dead and lost to regain life and its foothold, to start again. Animals seemed to emerge from every secluded pocket of the forest, filling the air with vibrant sounds. Hoof Prince had managed to make it through yet another trying winter, the hardest part was over. As she watched the changing lands before her unfold something seemed to change within the mare to. She no longer felt angry or sad or betrayed, instead she felt almost at ease and content with the world. Although she knew that this would never be fully possible having to endure the things she had caused Anaxandra had changed the last months of the winter. Spending her time cold and lonely in the heart of the dark forest had caused yet another change in her state of mind, one that should have been wrecked by now. Having no emotional responsibilities or thoughts on her mind a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders leaving a scarred version of her former self in its place. With time as the long dark winter passed she had found the courage and strength to repair herself, the best that a ruined soul can. She had no intention of waltzing back into the midst of Hoof Prince expecting a warm welcome. She was sure that Broken Dreams had wasted no time in spreading the story of what a torturous pusillanimous wicked being she was and so for quite a time she clung to the shadows evading detection. Eventually her herd like instincts kicked in and longing for companionship she set out. Moving away from the North she had passed through several familiar places before arriving in the kingdom of Scythia with the hopes of creating a new name and a new face for herself. Tentatively she emerged from the concealment of the forest, flinching at every new startling sound.
This isn’t me she thought angered at her own behavior. Cowardliness had never been a part of her and she wasn’t about to let it creep its way in now. Straightening her shoulders to face the rising sun she took a deep cleansing breath of air before pushing herself forward, mane and tail streaming to the side of her in the dawn breeze. .
