Playground

Parents do not fear; your children are safe in the Playground. A benevolent fairy watches over young colts and fillies who come to frolic here. The trees are ancient things, and widely spaced (excellent for tag) and there are several low logs to leap over and many ponds and thickets full of wonder for the little ones. Come play and form friendships that will last a lifetime.

Her coat bore the scent of the jungle, its chlorophyll and its pollen from the numerous jungle flowers in blossom year round. For what were seasons in the jungle other than one eternal summer? The smoky black girl was not yet a year old and already she understood the way the jungle worked. She took great pleasure out of arriving in the playground with the mark of the jungle on her dark coat, a sign that she had a home and one that history for her family. Her mother had taught her a lot already and when she stopped to observe the playground, she could not help but feel a bit smug about it. But really who was she other than a little filly looking to define herself? What set her apart? She heard the colt’s challenge and smiled. She certainly wasn’t a chicken, right? She took her time meeting him. She was aware that the world was now filled with horses with all kinds of traits—what would stop this colt from suddenly turning into a puddle? She was almost positive that she too could live happily in a mythical kingdom, but it afforded her no ability over another. “Careful who you call a chicken.” H E S T I A
