Our yard flock of 70 redpolls disappeared yesterday. A pair of common mergansers has joined the crowd of Canada geese in the stumpy waters of Mitchell Lake outside Shallamar Restaurant. And at 6 a.m., with only a faint glimmer of light, a robin let loose with a powerful burst of song and kept on singing.
