Limestone Ridge

Quiet is the land here, a melodious serenade of crickets, birds, and the rushing water. Formed by sedimentary rock, the ridges are truly magnificent to the eye – a sight one will never forget. The wind is cool, blowing steadily throughout the year. During sunset and sunrise, it seems as if the Lord himself wiped his paintbrushes across the vibrant canyons.

This land is closed. It is no longer habitable.

there was a boy, a very strange enchanted boy
a little shy and sad of eye, but very wise was he

The stream of tears from the grey mare only serve to further unnerve him, and he takes a step backward, unsure if it his nearness that causes her crying, or something else entirely. He nearly bumps into Freiya as the speckled mare steps forward and begins to speak. She is friendly, as usual, and when she falls silent, Marston glances back at the new mares, wondering if her gentle nature will assuage them in anyway. The smaller mare does not look particularly impressed with Freiya’s speech, but rather introduces herself before walking straight towards him. Unsure but unwilling to back down, Marston stands in place, motionless as the mare reaches up and inspects his horns with her muzzle. She steps away as quickly as she had come and he is left staring at her retreating figure, a frown on his yellow face.
He has caught the faint tumble of stones that mean someone else has approached, and he breathes deeply, recognizing Ayasha’s scent even before she approaches them to stand beside her friend. The quiet mare speaks directly to Freiya now, and Marston is hesitant to interrupt, even though he has not yet answered her question of why he had stolen them. He had thought the answer simple – to have larger herd, like all stallion desire – but perhaps he had not been clear with his intentions. Freiya answers the dappled mare in a whisper, and, unable to hear here, Marston looks back at the roan with the foal. “This is Ayasha,” he says, hoping to soothe the strangeness with introductions. He gestures to the black mare that stands beside Freiya and adds, “There are two others here, Tzila and Sarang.”
