She appears first as a head.
A relatively normal head really, a tan one with large inquisitive eyes, a fluffy black mane and just the faintest stub of a horn protruding from the forehead. The only strange thing about the head is that it is not attached to a body, but rather seems to grows from a dense cloud of fog that, atmospherically, does not belong in the humid orange grove.
She has not appeared until she is sure that the big thing is sleeping, and she approaches hesitantly even then. As she moves closer to the dozing mare, a body solidifies to support the phantom head. She looks normal now, a little dun paint filly, and judging from her size she isn’t more than a few days old. Hesitantly, she bends down to more closely inspect the mare’s large belly. There’s something in there, she decides, something stuck. She wonders if perhaps this large horse had eaten it, and begins to worry.
Gathering her courage, the filly takes a few steps backwards. Then she yells, something along the lines of “AHHHH!!!!!”
Satisfied that this will have woken up the sleeping giant, she then adds. “Did you eat that? That thing that is moving in your belly. I don’t think it liked being eaten.” And then, because as the words escaped her so did her courage, she begins to fade again, until all she is is a pair of great big brown eyes at about knee level with the winged mare.
(um, okay. she came out stranger than i expected XD)
