During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

Kestrel's judgement proved correct; it did not take long for them to come. If a single wolf could be called 'them'. The white male, in all honesty, was getting rather tired of his position on the ground. After an upside-down glance to the feminine, ivory and ebony painted female, Kes twisted lithely to his paws, not bothering to shake the dust which collected on his coat. He did not suddenly become dominant, just because of his standing position, mind you; the male kept his ears slicked against his head and his tail limp against his legs, his lips loose and his posture completely not threatening. For a moment, he simply scrutinized her, though not in an inappropriate way. He simply tried to decipher her rank in the pack, and who she was. After that moment of surveillance, Kestrel brought his auburn gaze to her face, though he did not meet her eyes directly. "Kestrel," he said, voice husky and rough. He didn't say anything more until the grizzled alpha came up, behind the female (who was left unnamed) at first, and then in front of her.

Unlike many alphas that Kes had encountered, neither of them invaded his personal space directly, but he could see the guarded wariness in their actions. Both of them could strike and kill him quite easily - not that he planned on dying on this fine summer day. They watched each other - well, more like the alpha and her pet watched him, and he watched the ruined, scarred muzzle of the alpha. She spoke, a voice far more threatening and dangerous than that of the other female, and after she finished, Kes pondered in silence for a heartbeat or two. "If I named what I could do, alpha, then I would seem arrogant. I will do whatever you need me to do - and loyally, at that." While his voice was quiet (not shy or cautious) it seemed far too loud in the silent portion of the humid place. "My worth will be decided by you, but I assure you that I will not let any weakness of mine affect the pack. If my failures negatively impact you, then I have no place here. I will leave." Another heavy silence. "But I've not yet found the meaning of failure." This was not said in a haughty way - only straightforward. Kestrel had barely failed, and even when he did, they were minor occurrences. The polar wolf would fight his own battles if it meant the pack would stay intact; not that any of his doings would affect them all too much.
